Jordan Burgason Sunday, February 22, 2009 KENNESAW, GA. – After six games on five different days of the week in a two week period, the Lipscomb University Bisons were ready to conclude their road schedule Sunday afternoon in Kennesaw, Ga. The Bisons defeated Kennesaw State 61-44 with the support of 37 points off the bench in a sloppy game. Lipscomb turned the ball over 20 times but easily walked away with the victory when Kennesaw, the cellar team in the A-Sun, shot an ice-cold 25.7 percent from the field. Lipscomb took a 17-8 lead with 9:35 left in the first after back-to-back 3-pointers by Michael Teller and Jordan Burgason. Kennesaw’s Mirza Medinic nailed a jumper in the paint on the next possession. It was the last field goal of the first half for the Owls. They missed 16 attempts before Jonathan Whipple connected on a layup a minute and a half into the second period. Lipscomb was up 27-14 at the intermission. Burgason, who was 3-of-4 from beyond the arc and finished with 13 points, drained a three with 12:48 left to put the Bisons up 38-22. Michael Lusk added a layup to give Lipscomb an 18-point lead, their largest of the game, with 11:14 on the clock. Kennesaw State whittled Lipscomb’s lead down to 12 with 5:16 remaining. Kurtis Woods scored 10 of his team high 13 points in the second half as the Owls tried to close the gap. The Bisons used a 6-0 run over a minute to go back up 18 with 3:47 left. Adnan Hodzic and Brandon Brown each posted double-doubles for Lipscomb. Hodzic finished with a game-high 15 points and 10 rebounds. Brown posted 12 points and 10 boards. Lipscomb held a 54-33 rebounding advantage. Lipscomb finished shooting 21-of-48 (43.8 percent) from the field and 5-of-13 (38.5 percent) from the 3-point line. The Bisons were 14-of-24 (58.3 percent) from the free throw line. Kennesaw was 4-of-27 (14.8 percent) from downtown. The Owls were 4-of-9 from the charity line. Lipscomb improves to 14-13, 10-8 in the A-Sun while extending its winning streak to six games. Kennesaw State falls to 7-20, 3-15 in the A-Sun. Lipscomb returns to Allen Arena this weekend for their final two regular season games. Lipscomb faces Jacksonville at approximately 8:15 p.m. Thursday evening as part of a doubleheader with the Lady Bisons.
