Friday, March 06, 2009The Lady Bisons opened play in the Low Country Invitational in Charleston, S.C., with a 3-0 win over Charleston Southern, the tournament host Friday morning.
It was the fifth straight win for the Lady Bisons this season and their third consecutive win by the score of 3-0. The Lady Bisons have won eight of their last nine games.
In the first inning the Lady Bisons scored all of the runs they would need.
With one out Courtney Billington singled to third base. Kellie Sirus followed with a single to left center and then went to second on the throw. Abby Keese doubled to right center bringing home both Billington and Sirus.
The Lady Bisons added an insurance run in the fifth.
Mackenzie Tucker singled to right center. Lauren Dortwegt sent her to second with a sacrifice bunt. Billington singled, moving to second on the throw. Tucker advanced to third, but was thrown out at the plate by the right fielder. Sirus doubled to left center to score Billington. Sirus has six doubles for the season. Keese hit her first double.
Keese extended her hitting streak to nine games. She also recorded her third multi-RBI game, tying her with Caroline Mason for the team lead.
Kiihnl , 5-1, struck out 12 and walked three. She has struck out 53 batters in 42.1 innings.
It was her second shutout in a row. It was her eighth appearance and seventh start. It was also her fourth complete game.
The Lady Bisons, 10-3, are scheduled to play UNC-Wilmington later in the day. Charleston Southern gell to 7-10.
