Tuesday, January 12, 2010The Lipscomb Track & Field teams opened the Indoor season Sunday at Tennessee State University. The Bisons and Lady Bisons performed very well in the Ed Temple Invite.
“It was a great start for us,” said head coach Bill Taylor. “Our middle distance and distance runners have only been doing mileage over the break. They haven’t done any quality workouts at all. So the distance performances were on talent and guts and I felt the results were terrific.
“Our sprints and jumps are greatly improved this year and will make a big impact this season. Our athletes really fought hard in every race and set the tone for a terrific season to come. We did really well even though we sat a lot of our athletes and ran many just in relays this meet. We even had some all-time PR’s already!”
Podium finishes highlighted the track & field events. Alex Jerkins picked up second and third place collegiate finishes respectively in the shot put and weight throw. Burton Elrod finished third among collegians in the shot put.
The women’s Distance Medley Relay A and B teams finished second and third, while the men’s Distance Medley Relay A team picked up a second place finish.
Third place podium finishes were also picked up by Xavier Conley in the long jump, and Louisa Van Batavia in the 3000m (which ended up being 2792m because the race was stopped a lap short).
Chad Martin ran an all time 3000m PR finishing third among collegiate runners. Freshman Ben Wright won his heat of the mile. The Bisons and Lady Bisons are back in action at the ETSU Niswonger Invite in Johnson City, Tenn., Jan. 22-23.
