JACKSONVILLE – Junior center Adnan Hodzic scored 29 points as the Lipscomb Bisons blew past North Florida 79-55 Saturday evening at UNF Arena.
The teams spent a large portion of the game at the free throw line. There were a combined 55 fouls called. Lipscomb (9-8, 6-2 A-Sun) shot 24-of-33 (72.7 percent) from the charity stripe. North Florida (9-9, 4-4 A-Sun) was 18-of-36 for 50 percent.
Hodzic shot 9-of-12 from the field and was 11-of-17 at the free throw line. He has scored in double figures in 44 consecutive games. This is the longest active streak in the nation and his performance tonight also sets the record for the longest streak in Atlantic Sun history.
“I thought we played pretty well on both ends of the floor,” Lipscomb head coach Scott Sanderson said. “We played defense well and did a good job getting the ball down to Adnan.
“This was a solid team effort for us tonight.”
Sophomore guard Jordan Burgason hit four first half 3-pointers on his way to finishing six-of-ten from the floor and five-of-eight from downtown for 18 points.
Junior guard Josh Slater shot five-of-ten from the field and six-of-eight from the free throw line to finish with 16 points.
The Bisons shifted the momentum in their direction going on a 6-0 run to take a 12-7 lead at the 14:15 mark in the first half.
North Florida only held the lead two more times – both two point leads in the first half created when Jerron Granberry hit a 3-pointer.
Lipscomb closed the first half on a 15-4 run over the final 6:04 to take a 41-29 lead into the break.
After Slater opened the second half for the Bisons with a free throw, Hodzic scored nine straight points to put Lipscomb up 51-35 with 14:46 left.
North Florida was never able to make any stabs into Lipscomb’s lead. They connected on just four-of-12 free throw attempts in the last 4:33 of the contest.
Jerry Macon gave the Bisons a 26-point lead, their largest of the game, when he made a layup with 35 seconds left.
Lipscomb outrebounded North Florida 36-26. Hodzic and Slater led the Bisons with seven boards each. Andy Diaz had eight rebounds to pace North Florida.
Sophomore Justin Glenn came off the bench for Lipscomb playing eight minutes finishing with six rebounds and two blocks.
Granberry led North Florida with 13 points.
Lipscomb returns to action Thursday as the Bisons host ETSU in Allen Arena at 7:30 p.m.
