Saturday, March 06, 2010The Lipscomb Lady Bisons extended their winning streak to 12 games with a 5-2 win over Eastern Kentucky Saturday afternoon in the second round of the Lady Bisons Classic at Draper Diamond.
Neither team scored until the bottom of the third. Mckenzie Tucker singled through the left side. She moved to third when Whitney Kiihnl grounded out to the shortstop. Lauren Dortwegt doubled through the left side moving Tucker to third. She was out at third and Dortwegt moved to third on the throw. She scored on an error by the third baseman.
In the fourth inning Campbell doubled to bring home Abby Keese and Kellie Sirus. Sirus walked to reach base and Keese singled through the left side.
The Lady Bisons added two more runs in the fifth. Dortwegt doubled to score Kiihnl who had reached base on a single to the pitcher. Dortwegt scored on an error by the shortstop.
Eastern Kentucky, 1-10, struck for two runs in the seventh.
Campbell extended her record to 3-0. She pitched a complete game. She gave up two hits and two runs and struck out six. Dortwegt was the only Lady Bison with two hits in the game.
The Lady Bisons, 14-1, were to play a rematch with Murray State Saturday afternoon. They close out the tournament Sunday at 2:30 against Evansville.
