Wednesday, March 10, 2010MACON, Ga. - A pair of Lipscomb athletes earned the Atlantic Sun Track and Field weekly awards Wednesday with Ryan Chastain earning the track honor and Alex Jerkins picking up the field accolade.
Though the distance changed from the mile to the 1500-meter for outdoor track at the UNF Invite, Chastain, a native of Mitchell, Ind., continued his record breaking campaign. The senior’s winning time of 3:51.54 eclipsed the previous Lipscomb school record of 4:00.44 (Bob Martin, 1977) by nearly nine seconds.
Jerkins competed in three events for the Bisons at the UNF Invite. The sophomore took fifth in the shot put with a toss of 45-10. The Faireview, Tenn. native also took 12th in the discus with a mark of 128-10 and 13th in the javelin with a heave of 144-3.
