Kristin Lusk Saturday, March 27, 2010 The women’s tennis team played undefeated A-Sun conference foe ETSU on Friday at the Lipscomb Tennis Center. The Lady Bisons were swept by the Buccaneers 7-0, bringing their conference record to 0-7.
Lipscomb struggled in doubles, losing all three matches, and allowing ETSU to secure the doubles point.
Mackenzie Bishop and Elizabeth Keevil played a good match at No. 1 but came up short in the end, losing to Stupak and Holtzhausen 8-4.
Kara Jackson and Danielle Hansen were swept by Jaime and Voinea at No. 2 8-0.
At No. 3, Julianne McMeen and Carlina Jow fell to Naurotsua and Sheets 8-1.
With doubles play behind them, the Lady Bisons embarked on singles play with a 1-0 disadvantage.
Bishop was shut down at No. 1 by Stupak, losing by a score of 6-1, 6-0.
Falling 6-0, 6-1, Keevil was defeated by Holtzhausen at the No. 2 spot, bringing the match score to 0-3.
At No. 3, Hansen came up short against Jaime, falling 6-1, 6-1.
Jackson lost at No. 4 to Naurotsua 6-2, 6-2, while McMeen fell at No. 6 to Voinea 6-0, 6-0.
The highlight match came in the No. 5 position. Although she did not come out with the victory for her birthday, which was on the day of the match, freshman Carlina Jow battled back to make it a close second set, losing to Sheets 6-0, 7-5.
The freshman played some of her best tennis yet this season during her second set against the Buccaneers. Once leading the second set 5-4, she played with great confidence.
The Lady Bisons are back in action Friday, April 2 as they travel to Georgia to play Kennesaw State in another A-Sun match up.
