The Atlantic Sun Conference Baseball Championship begins Wednesday from Lipscomb University's Dugan Field with a field of six schools all ranked inside the RPI top 90.

The NCAA honored Lipscomb University's women's basketball, women's golf and women's tennis teams Tuesday with a Public Recognition Award for their high marks academically. These awards are given each year to teams scoring in the top 10 percent in each sport, based on their most recent Academic Progress Rates.

Bill Connelly played basketball for Lipscomb before the switch from NAIA to NCAA Division I basketball. Lipscomb University will hold its 2011 Commencement Ceremony Saturday at 2 p.m. in Allen Arena. Degrees will be conferred to 27 student-athletes and two athletic department graduate assistants.

Trey Hartman played baseball for Lipscomb University, and was able to be a part of Coach Dugan's 800th win. He now spends his time at his pharmacy, along with raising his three daughters with his wife Beth.

Lipscomb will host Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski Saturday evening at 7:30 at the 3rd Annual Don Meyer Evening of Excellence. As of Friday morning, about 30 seats remain for the keynote address.

Former Lipscomb University coach Don Meyer will be inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. Meyer is one of 11 inductees to be enshrined at the hall of fame's annual banquet on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at the Renaissance Hotel in Nashville.

George McIntosh was a tennis and basketball player at Lipscomb and later served as the tennis coach. He is the president of the Jim Wood Golden Bison Club, part of the National Bison Club, that meets each month in the Hall of Fame room at Allen Arena.

Jamie Aid is returning home…again. She attended Samford University for one year in Birmingham, Ala., but returned to her hometown of Nashville to play tennis for Lipscomb University. After being away from Lipscomb at Ensworth High School for the past five years she returns to campus as the new women's assistant tennis coach.

Jennifer Cannon Wheeler played softball at Lipscomb during the transition period from NAIA to NCAA Division I. She had the opportunity to compete in Atlantic Sun Conference games and played first base for the first Lady Bisons team to play in the A-Sun Tournament in 2005.

Alex Scruggs was a key figure in helping the Lipscomb volleyball program grow, capping her senior season with the Lady Bisons winning their first ever Atlantic Sun Tournament Championship and making their first NCAA Tournament appearance in Dayton, Ohio.

Emily Hardin played soccer at Lipscomb University, but she is quickly making her mark as a marathon runner. On July 25th she was the first woman runner to cross the finish line at the San Francisco Marathon, a race that attracted more than 25,000 runners.

Bernard Card was known for his hustle on the basketball court as a member of the Lipscomb Bisons. He is working just as hard in the corporate world as well. He was inducted in the Campbell Sales Company Hall of Fame this summer for his success as part of the Campbell Soup team.

Jack “Jackie” Bradford was a basketball player for Lipscomb University from 1964-66. He played for the 1965-66 team which went 20-4, one of the best records of the 1960s for Lipscomb. Bradford spent some time with LipscombSports.com to remember his days at Lipscomb.

The eyes of the sports world are South Africa and the World Cup this month. Spencer Sutton was a member of the first LU soccer team in 1994. He is a fitting selection since he not only is a former soccer player, but his non-profit company Neverthirst provides clean water for India, the Central African Republic and Sudan.

Lipscomb boasted seven spring teams with at least 70 percent of the student-athletes achieving at least a 3.0 grade-point average helping the Bisons win their first-ever Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic Trophy, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
