Friday, July 02, 2010Former Lipscomb Bisons pitcher Rex Brothers has been promoted to Class AA by the parent Colorado Rockies.
Brothers has joined the Tulsa Drillers of the Texas League after opening the season with the Modesto Nuts in the Class A California League.
Brothers, a left-hander, was a supplemental first round pick by the Rockies in the 2009 Major League Draft.
He was 0-2 with three saves for Modesto. He made 33 appearances, all in relief and posted a 2.68 earned run average. In 37 innings he struck out 43 batters and walked 19. Opposing hitters were batting .165 against him.
Joseph featured in Orioles magazine
Caleb Joseph is playing in Class AA for the Baltimore Orioles. He is a member of the Bowie Baysox in the Eastern League in Bowie, Md.
In the most recent edition of the Orioles magazine there was a feature article about Joseph. In addition Joseph was also listed as a contributing writer. His diary of a road trip to Richmond, Va., Harrisburg, Pa., and Trenton, N.J., was also included in the magazine.
Joseph, a catcher, has played in 66 games. He is batting .242 with nine doubles, one triple and six home runs. He has driven in 32 runs.
He was a seventh round pick in the 2008 Major League Draft out of Lipscomb.
Smith seeing action in Billings
Right-hander Josh Smith has made two appearances for the Billings Mustangs, the Cincinatti Reds rookie league team in the Pioneer League.
He has a 2.25 ERA with three walks and four strikeouts.
Smith was drafted in the 21st round of the June Major League Draft, the third straight year a Bisons player has been selected.
