Wednesday, February 09, 2011Daniel Cline gained many valuable relationships while playing golf at Lipscomb University. He now lives in Atlanta, Ga., working for the Greater Atlanta Christian School while raising his three children with his wife Kristin. He coaches the men’s and women’s golf teams at the Greater Atlanta Christian School, but took some time to talk about his memories from Lipscomb with lipscombsports.com.
What sport did you play at Lipscomb? What years? Who were your coaches?
“I played golf from 1991-1995. THE Ralph Samples was both my coach and friend.”
What is your fondest athletic memory at Lipscomb?
“Being a part of leading the men’s golf team the last three years of my eligibility was wonderful. Coach Samples did a great job making us feel a part of the organization and leadership of the team. I also thoroughly enjoyed the relationships and encouragement between athletes from different sports.”
Who had the biggest influence on you during your athletic career at Lipscomb? How?
“Coach Samples made the biggest impact on me during my time at Lipscomb. Not only did he play the role of coach, but also served his team as a mentor, counselor, and father figure.”
What is your fondest non-athletic memory from your time at Lipscomb?
“My absolute fondest memory was meeting my precious wife. She changed my life and challenged me to become the man God created me to be.”
What is the most valuable thing you gained or learned from your time at Lipscomb?
“When I arrived at Lipscomb I was an immature and self-centered person. The influence of Lipscomb’s servant-hearted faculty and staff, other amazing classmates, incredible classes, and service/spiritual opportunities, both challenged me, and modeled for me, how to be more like Jesus.”
Who was your favorite professor? Why?
“To this day I still talk about three specific professors: Dr. Mark Black, Dr. Terry Briley, and Dr. Roy Hamley. Dr. Black and Dr. Briley nurtured and developed my love for God’s Word. Dr. Hamley helped me understand who I was and encouraged me to love others better. All three men were instrumental in my personal and spiritual growth.”
Where do you live now?
“My family and I live in the suburbs of Atlanta, Ga. My e-mail address is email@example.com."
Who is your employer? What is your occupation? What does your position entail?
“I am blessed to have worked at Greater Atlanta Christian School for eight of the last eleven years. I serve as a Bible Teacher and Student Ministry Leader for the 750 students in the high school, as well as coach the men’s and women’s golf teams, and am the Director for Summer Programming.
“Teaching Bible allows me the opportunity to write curriculum, and interact with about 125 freshmen every day. As a Student Ministry Leader, I am responsible for creating environments and systems that further our mission “…to help each student grow as Jesus did, in wisdom, in stature, and in favor with God and man.” I have coached both the men and women golf teams for most of the past 13 years, helping guide them to several individual and team State titles. Finally, I have recently been hired as the Director of Summer Programming at GACS, with the role of redesigning and implementing an entirely new day camp, as well as coordinating our 19 sports camps for students through 12th grade.”
Tell us about your family.
“My wife Kristin is the best mother/wife I know. She serves as a wonderful mentor to young ladies in our community. She helps keep me on track as my personal assistant. She will help coordinate our summer programs at GACS, and excels at home interior painting.
We have three children: Caitlin (11), Mitchell (almost 10 – he claims he is 10), and Christian (almost 8). All three attend Greater Atlanta Christian School (GACS) with me and are active in drama and sports.
We are blessed to be a part of a small gathering of Christians at our home as a part of Community Church of Christ, and work with Passion Conferences and Passion City church to fulfill Jesus’ mission through them.”
