Monday, February 28, 2011MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb Whitney Kiihnl, earned two victories for Lipscomb including a 17-strikeout no-hitter against Samford to earn Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week honors.
Kiihnl is a junior biology major from Batesville, Miss. This is her seventh A-Sun Pitcher of the Week award in her career.
In the Magic City Classic hosted by UAB in Birmingham, Ala., Kiihnl:
• Struck out a season-high 17 batters out of 19 faced in no-hitter against Samford
• Pitched 18 scoreless innings in three games to earn two victories
• Fanned 30 batters in total on the week; only allowed five hits
• Named Pitching MVP of the UAB Tournament
Kiihnl struck out the 17 hitters in only six innings in a 10-0 win over Samford. She faced 19 batters. She made a putout for the 18th out. Her attempt at a perfect game was ruined due to one error in the opening game of the “Magic City Classic” in Birmingham Friday.
This was the second time in her career she has posted 17 strikeouts in a game. Last season she had 17 in seven innings April 17th against Florida Gulf Coast.
She set her career high as a freshman with 18 in an extra-inning win over Mercer April 17, 2009.
