Sunday, March 20, 2011The Lipscomb Bisons closed out their first Atlantic Sun series of the season with a 6-2 loss Sunday afternoon to Kennesaw State at Stillwell Stadium.
Kennesaw State, 14-8, 7-2 in the conference, swept the three-game series. The Bisons are 7-13, 0-3 in the A-Sun.
The Bisons jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning. With two outs T.J. Hoelzer reached base on a bunt single. M.L. Williams followed with a single to left. Josh Chism doubled down the left field line to drive in Hoelzer. Richie Goodenow walked to load the bases, but Tennyson Dodd struck out swinging to end the inning.
Kennesaw State roared back with four runs in the third. Two-RBI doubles by Andy Chriscaden and Peyton Hart accounted for the runs. Kennesaw State added two more runs in the fifth on a single by Drew Fowlkes.
The Bisons attempted a rally in the sixth. Goodenow led off the inning with a double to left center. Dodd then struck out swinging and Lee Wilson flied out to right field. Logan Hostettler then doubled to bring in Goodenow.
Hostettler and Williams each had two hits as the Bisons had eight in the game.
Right-hander Dannie Strable, 2-3, started for the Bisons. He gave up six hits and four runs while walking two and striking out four in 2.1 innings. Right-hander Josh Cotham pitched the rest of the way. In 5.2 innings he was touched for five hits and two runs, one earned. He walked one and struck out eight.
The Bisons are back in action Wednesday at 6 when the University of Tennessee visits Ken Dugan Field at Stephen Lee Marsh Stadium. It will be the third Southeastern Conference team the Bisons have played this season.
