The Bisons concluded the 2011 regular season with a 4-3 win over Atlantic Sun rival Belmont on Senior Day at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center on Saturday.

The win improved the Bisons record to 7-10 overall and 4-6 in the A-Sun. The Bisons hopes at a seed in the top six and a spot in the post-season tournament hinges on the Jacksonville vs. North Florida match which is scheduled for Sunday, April 10.

Should the Ospreys get the win over Jacksonville on Sunday, the Bisons will clinch a spot in the tournament for the first time in school history in the six-team format. If Jacksonville wins Sunday, the Dolphins will garner the final seed in the A-Sun Tournament.

The Bisons picked up an early lead, starting off the match 1-0 by winning the doubles point 2-1.

At No. 1, senior Joe McArdle and freshman Oliver Strecker defeated Rodrigo Amaral and Rafael Matos 8-5. Freshmen David Salazar and Miguel Cortez fell to Bruno Silva and Felipe Cirne Lima 8-6.

The Bisons clinched the point with a win at No. 3 doubles, where sophomores Tanner Brown and Colby Shaw defeated James Murrell and Christopher Bates 8-3.

With the doubles point under their belts, the Bisons headed into singles play with a 1-0 lead. However, the Bisons dropped their top three singles matches to the Bruins.

At No. 1, Strecker fell to Amaral 6-3, 6-3, while Salazar lost to Matos at No. 2 7-5, 6-3. Junior Chad Pierron was defeated at No. 3 by Silva in a three setter, falling 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

After dropping their lead and falling to 1-3, the bottom half of the Bisons’ line up picked up the slack winning out their matches to post a 4-3 win.

Brown posted a win at No. 4, easily defeating Cirne Lima 6-1, 6-1, while Cortez took down Bates at No. 5 by a steady score of 6-3, 6-3.

Shaw closed out the tied match at No. 6 with a win over Murrell, brother of Bisons’ senior James Murrell, 6-1, 6-2.

The Bisons’ await the results of the Jacksonville vs. UNF match to determine their post-season fate.

James Murrell, Mario Hernandez and McArdle were honored for their contributions to the program during their careers at Lipscomb on Senior Day Saturday.
