Monday, May 02, 2011Lipscomb women’s tennis coach, Andrew Harris has announced the signing of Ksenia Pronina and Jenny Borck to National Letters of Intent. Pronina, a native of Germany, and Borck, of San Diego, Calif., will both start class at Lipscomb in the fall 2011 semester.
In his first year as the women’s head coach, Andrew Harris said he and assistant coach Jamie Aid took special care when recruiting to find girls who will undertake the identity of a Lady Bison and Lipscomb student.
"Certainly with this being our first recruiting class, we wanted to make sure that each player we were recruiting understood the identity we are trying to create,” Harris said. “Ksenia and Jenny certainly fit the mold of being great ambassadors for the university and understand the bigger picture of what is going on in terms of building the program and what that takes moving forward.”
Harris said Pronina will provide great experience to the team even as a freshman, having competed on the international level.
“First of all, Ksenia comes from a very strong background in Germany, where she has played at the international level and understands the physical and mental demands it will take to play at a high level in the Division I game. Her pedigree and knowledge of the game will expedite her learning curve.”
Borck, a four-star recruit, will bring a needed levelheaded ambiance and demeanor for the 2011-12 team.
“The thing about Jenny when you first meet her is the way she carries herself,” Harris said. “She is very level headed and focused on what needs to be taken care of in order to achieve a goal. Jamie and I have liked her demeanor from the first day, and that is very critical when you talk about continuing to build and making sure you have the right people on the bus that understand what you expect. I think Jenny gets that.
“She plays more of a baseline game and looks for her opportunities to come to the net when available. Her mentality of getting every ball back and making her opponents execute their game will serve her well heading into the fall.”
Pronina and Borck will join four returning Lady Bisons, rising seniors Elizabeth Keevil and Samantha Bowman, junior Carlina Jow, and sophomore Alyssa Bellini. The coaching staff hopes to add a little more depth to the roster before next season.
“We still are looking to bring in one to two more players in addition to these two ladies; however, these two are a great foundation to start from. Jamie Aid has done a great job balancing the logistics for these players and making sure the recruiting process has gone smooth from the beginning.”
