MACON, Ga. – Sophomore Dani Walker, of the Lipscomb women’s cross country team, was named this week’s Atlantic Sun Female Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Walker placed second at the Chattanooga Powerade Invite following her 11:13s run of the two-mile course. Lipscomb was the overall team victor, placing seven runners in the top-10. It was her second consecutive top-five finish for Lipscomb.
The award was Walker’s first-ever A-Sun Runner of the Week honor, and the first for Lipscomb since Alex Newby for the week of Sept. 15, 2010.
Though this is her first weekly conference award, Walker received much hardware at last season’s A-Sun Cross Country Championships, winning the female Freshman of the Year Award as well as being named to both the All-Freshman team and the all-conference squad.
Walker’s feat was made all the more amazing by the fact that she ran the last 800 meters of the race with a broken foot, which will keep her out for the remainder of cross country season.
Lipscomb will run at the Vanderbilt Invitational, Saturday, at the Vaughn’s Gap course of Percy Warner Park. The women’s race is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., following the men’s race at 8:45 a.m.
