Lipscomb was unable to contain the high-octane offense the Lady Govs of Austin Peay brought to Nashville falling to the visitors 5-0 Thursday evening.
With just one shot attempt in the first half in contrast to Austin Peay’s thirteen, the Lady Bisons couldn’t seem to find any rhythm on offensively. Lipscomb’s offense consisted mostly of long run outs with the ball eventually finding its way into the clutches of the defense.
The Lady Govs wasted no time offensively, scoring just seven minutes into the game on a Tatiana Ariza free kick into the box. Jocelyn Murdoch redirected the shot past Lipscomb’s Erin Zerio for the Lady Govs opening salvo.
At the 20 minute mark, a Corey Osborn corner kick found the foot of Emily Kink for the second and final goal Lipscomb would allow in the first half.
Lipscomb’s lone first half attempt came from junior Martika Powe in the 34th minute, sailing high over the crossbar. Zerio, though under constant fire from the opponents, turned away five other shots in the first half. She would ultimately make seven saves before being lifted in the game's 73rd minute.
The Lady Bisons held Austin Peay for much of the second half until the game’s 77th-minute mark when, Tatiana Ariza was able to fake the new keeper, freshman Allison Brown, after a long run and score into an empty net. It was the 11th goal of the season for the nation’s leading goal scorer.
Just four minutes later the Lady Govs scored again on a cross into the box from Andy Quiceno to her sister, Joceline.
With just 36 seconds left in the game Bianca Melito took a misplayed ball by the keeper and scored into an open net, bringing the final score to 5-0.
In the second half, the Lady Bisons offensive struggles continued to plague them, only attempting three more shots, bringing the total to four, two of those by senior Kirsten Heikkinen. Heikkinen would put the Lady Bisons lone shot on goal in the match on net in the game’s final minute.
The Lady Bisons will play their last non-conference game this Sunday at Tennessee Tech at 3 p.m. The Lady Bisons next home game is Friday, September 30th against ETSU.
