NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The sounds of mitts popping and bats cracking echoed through Ken Dugan Field on Tuesday afternoon as the Lipscomb baseball squad began their fall camp in preparation for the 2012 campaign.

“We always start out the fall practice and everybody is excited to be here,” said Lipscomb skipper Jeff Forehand.  “Next week we will start building up our intrasquads which will begin playing just about every day in October where we can get some competition going and find out who’s going to fit best at what spot.”

The Bisons return a number of veterans from the 2011 squad along with plenty of new faces that will take the field this season for Lipscomb. 

“We’ve talked about setting our culture and getting it back to where everybody expects it to be,” said Forehand.  “I feel like every year we come in, we have good personnel. We are capable. We’ve really got to put our best foot forward this time about the smaller things and that there are no small things in the game and practice is just as important as the games are.”

Lipscomb will participate in a “Scout” day on Wednesday in conjunction with Belmont at Rose Park beginning at 5:30 p.m.  The team will also scrimmage in a live-game situation on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. on the Lipscomb campus.  The practices are open to the public and fans are invited to come watch the drills.
