NASHVILLE, Tenn. – While some on the squad will use this as week of rest leading up to the Atlantic Sun Championships, the Lipscomb cross country teams will send athletes to Saturday’s Evansville Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. with the men’s 8K event, with the women’s 5K set to follow at 11:45.
The A-squads for both the men and women’s team won’t be in attendance at Evansville, as head coach Bill Taylor looks to rest his top runners for the championships. This will give the B-squads a chance to run as Lipscomb’s top teams, which will hopefully give the younger athletes confidence as we move to track and field and into the next cross country season.
The men’s team will send a small field to this meet. Senior Aaron Todd and sophomore Phillip Brasher will be joined by freshmen Ben Ashley, Tate Honaker, Cliff Long and Zak Vruwink.
A larger group of women’s athletes will be in attendance. Taylor will have 14 female competitors in the field, including three (Kaitlyn Llewellyn, Louisa Van Batavia and Priya Pappu) who have sub-19 minute 5K runs to their credit in 2011.
The cross country teams will have next weekend off before embarking on a cross-town trip to the A-Sun Cross Country Championships, held at the Vaughn’s Gap Course of Percy Warner Park and hosted by Belmont.
