NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Set to close out the 2011 portion of the slate, the Lipscomb women’s basketball team hosts Gardner Webb for a non-conference tilt on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Allen Arena.

The Lady Bisons (2-10) head into the matinee contest on the heels of a 72-57 loss to Ole Miss that was much closer than the final score indicated.  Junior wing Hannah Phillips led the Lady Bisons with a 12-point, eight-rebound effort against the Rebels.  Averaging a team-high dozen points a night on the season, it marked the fifth-straight contest that Phillips has led Lipscomb in scoring.

Senior guard Anna Bowers ranks just behind Philips with a 10.7 points-per-game average.

The opponent:  Gardner Webb  heads into Sunday’s contest looking for their first win on 2011-12 having come up empty in their first eight attempts so far this season .  The Runnin’ Bulldogs are coming off a 92-27 loss at No. 15 Louisville on Dec. 10.  Gardner Webb leads the all-time series 7-6 but the Lady Bisons are 4-1 on their home court against the Runnin’ Bulldogs.

Catrina Green leads GWU in scoring averaging eight points-per-contest.  The sophomore center also leads the squad in rebounding hauling down 7.5 boards a night.

Up next: The Lady Bisons take a few days off for the traditional break before kicking off the New Year by returning to Atlantic Sun conference action on Jan. 2 at Jacksonville.
