CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s tennis team continued action on Saturday night falling 7-0 to homestanding Chattanooga at the Hixson Racquet club in Chattanooga.
“We certainly knew going into this match the level of play would need to rise on our end,” head coach Andrew Harris said. “We started off sharp in doubles, however, had trouble maintaining our focus towards the end of the sets. On the singles side we competed well and continued to work on things throughout the matches. At the end of the evening, though, we simply were not able to string enough points together consistently to instill much pressure on them.
“This was a good weekend for us and allows us the opportunity to continue to work on things in practice to come back and be even better next match."
Lipscomb fell in both doubles matches, leaving them with a 0-1 disadvantage heading into singles after a default in the third match due to traveling only five players.
Sophomore Alyssa Bellini and freshman Deahna Welcher fell to Alexa Flynn and Emily Hangstefer at No. 1 doubles, falling 8-3, while senior Elizabeth Keevil and freshman Jenny Borck lost at No. 2 to Jenna Nurik and Kaylene Chadwell 8-6.
With the default at No. 6 and the doubles loss, the Lady Bison began singles play 0-2.
At No. 1 singles, Bellini was blanked by Nurik 6-0, 6-0, while Welcher fell to Chadwell at No. 2 6-1, 6-2.
Borck came up short against Hangstefer at No. 4, falling 6-4, 6-2, and Keevil lost to Shaina Singh 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4. Hansen fell at No. 5 to Charlotte Bossy 6-0, 6-1.
The loss leaves the Lady Bison with a 1-2 record for the season.
The Lady Bison return home for their next match. Lipscomb will face Evansville on Friday, Feb. 3 at Whitworth Racquet Club at 7 p.m.
