NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s tennis team dropped their record to 2-5 on Friday night, falling to Abilene Christian 6-0 at Whitworth Racquet Club.
"The bad news is we didn’t start out as well as we needed to in the doubles and had trouble finishing points in order to gain some confidence for the later part of the match,” head coach Andrew Harris said. “ACU played very well. Their women tonight showed some great mental toughness. The good news is we come back on Saturday against Austin Peay and have an opportunity to re-write the script."
With only five active players, only two doubles matches were played to decide the doubles point.
Lady Bison sophomore Alyssa Bellini and freshman Deahana Welcher teamed up at No. 1, but were defeated by Micha Hermsdorf and Hannah Kelley 8-2.
At No. 2, senior Elizabeth Keevil and freshman Jenny Borck fell to Laura Mongin and Brittany Reed 8-5.
With a 1-0 deficit, the Lady Bison headed into singles play.
The Lady Bison dropped all five of the singles matches played to conclude their 6-0 loss.
Bellini was defeated at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2, by Hermsdorf, while Welcher fell to Reed 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2.
At No. 3, Borck posted a tight first set, but eventually lost to Mongin 7-5, 6-1.
Keevil was defeated by Emily Conrad at No. 4, losing 6-2, 6-2, while senior Samantha Bowman lost to Kelley at No. 5, 6-0, 6-0. The No. 6 position was a default.
The Lady Bison will try to redeem their loss on Saturday as they travel to Clarksville, Tenn. to face Austin Peay.
