NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb track and field returns to action with the beginning of the outdoor season at this weekend’s UNF Spring Break Invite, held March 2-3 at the Hodges Stadium Track and Field facility.
This meet has become one of the more prestigious early-season outdoor meets in the region, drawing teams from across the nation to sunny Florida. This year’s field features athletes from Michigan, West Virginia, Winthrop, Pepperdine, Florida State, South Florida and Atlantic Sun foes Kennesaw State and host North Florida.
Lipscomb kicks off the outdoor campaign in Jacksonville for the third consecutive season. Last year, sophomore Dani Walker posted a second-place finish in the 1500m run, one of four Lady Bison runners to make the top-10. Junior Logan Ray posted a third-place triple jump finish.
The Bison and Lady Bison ended the indoor campaign with top performances at the A-Sun Indoor Championships, earning 14 medals overall. Sophomore Tucker Peabody (gold in the 200m dash, bronze in the 60m) and freshman Colin Dempster (silver in the pole vault, bronze in the heptathlon) medaled twice for the Bison, as did Walker (bronze in the 1500m run and the distance medley relay) and freshman Kendra Lobley (silver in the 1500m, bronze in the DMR).
While most of his teammates soak in the Florida sun, Peabody will be in Birmingham, Ala. for the High Tide Qualifier. He is attempting to qualify for the NCAA Indoor National Championships in the 200m dash. His school-record 21.28s mark currently has him tied for 45th nationally. Should he qualify, he will make the trek to Boise, Idaho for the championships on March 9.
The Bison and Lady Bison will continue the outdoor season with a trip to Birmingham for the Birmingham-Southern Invitational, March 10. This will be the first of nine weekends in a row the Lipscomb track and field teams will be in competition.
