I was so excited to head back to my home state! We left for the airport Tuesday morning at 4:30 a.m. It was still dark outside. We boarded our plane and I sat with my usual plane buddies – Whitney Kiihnl and Bridgette Begle. It was that morning that we decided to put Whitney through cotillion classes. Flying into Denver is always a little bumpy but these flights were rough. After landing in Denver we grabbed some breakfast and boarded our next flight to San Francisco. I started reading the third book in “The Hunger Games” series and by the time we left SFO I finished it! Such great books; I might even read them again.
We landed in San Francisco and were going to Little Luccas for lunch. It’s a little store and probably had only one worker and would have been overwhelmed seeing 20 girls walk through the door. It was so funny because we were laughing saying it was probably a food truck and then drove up to the little store which wasn’t much bigger than a food truck. Instead we went to Red Robin, and that is where Whit’s cotillion classes started. I haven’t laughed that hard in a while. Bridgette and I made a video filmed by Shelby Cunningham of all the things Whit does. Let’s just say Bridgette’s acting career is going to take off; definitely one of my favorite lunches.
After that we checked into the hotel and I had the best room followed by the best lunch. Spring break was off to a great start. I roomed with Rena’ Cothron, Jordan Abel and Bridgette! Then we went sightseeing and got to see how beautiful San Francisco is. We went to the Golden Gate Bridge, downtown, and got to watch the sunset. We took a lot of pictures and they are all posted on Lipscomb Softball’s facebook page. After seeing all the pretty views we went to dinner at BJ’s Restaurant, they have the best avocado egg rolls. It had been a long day so when we got back from dinner falling asleep was not hard at all.
We got to go to Alcatraz on Wednesday and that was SO cool. It was interesting to be walking in the same places as some of the country’s most notorious criminals such as Al Capone, “Whitey”, and “Creepy” Karpis. It was an amazing experience. After our tour we got to go walk around Fisherman’s Wharf. Of course we’re in San Francisco so I had to get a clam chowder bread bowl. Whit, Shelby, Rena’, Bridgette, Kelsey Cartwright and I all went to this place called Chowders. I love being by the ocean! We got to walk around and see all the things San Fran had to offer. There’s a lot going on in that city. I don’t see how anyone could ever get bored. We went back to BJ’s Restaurant for dinner and after dinner my roommates and I crashed as soon as our heads hit the pillow.
Thursday we woke up and had practice at San Francisco State’s field before we left to go to San Luis Obispo. Practice went well. When we got there it was freezing but California weather is weird and by 10 it was warm. We went back to the hotel, showered and left for lunch at Panera. There was an In-N-Out right next door so after lunch a lot of us went and got milkshakes. We couldn’t pass it up when it’s so close. Then we started our drive to San Luis Obispo.
We decided to take highway 1 down to San Luis Obispo, which was absolutely beautiful. We got to drive right next to the pretty Pacific Ocean all day! We even stopped to watch the sunset. I forgot how beautiful California sunsets were until Thursday. When we got to San Luis Obispo or SLO as a lot of Californians call it we ate at my all-time favorite restaurant in California…Splash Café. I grew up going there and would honestly drive to the beach for a day just to get a clam chowder bread bowl. Caroline Mason and Shelby tried chowder for the first time and they loved it! After we ate our yummy dinner we went to the hotel to check in. It had been a really long day for us.
