NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb volleyball head coach Brandon Rosenthal has announced the signing of setter Rachel Reed to a National Letter of Intent for the upcoming 2012 season.
Named the 2011 Pinellas County co-Player of the Year along with fellow teammate and Lipscomb signee Brittnay Estes by the Tampa Bay Times, Reed helped lead East Lake High School to back-to-back Class 8A Florida state championships.
“We are very excited about the addition of Rachel Reed to our program,” said Rosenthal. “I've always said that recruiting is a funny animal, and while watching Brittnay playing at a local high school match in Tampa, Fla., I was very impressed with her setter.
“After the match I inquired about the setter and learned a lot more about Rachel over the next couple of months. She has experienced a good amount of competitive volleyball over her high school career and competing for the Pinellas Heat during the club season. Rachel is a very consistent setter and will add a great deal with her work ethic and easy going attitude.”
A two-time Maxpreps/AVCA Florida Player of the Week, Reed racked up 758 assists and added 72 kills for the Eagles as a senior earning Tampa Bay Times 2011 All-Suncoast First-Team honors.
“Rachel is one of those players that her teammates enjoy playing with her,” said Rosenthal. “She brings a great energy to the court and will provide some depth to the setting position. As someone that always has a great disposition it will be a lot of fun to watch her continue to grow on and off the court.”
