NEW ORLEANS – Dani Walker and Kendra Lobley, members of the Lipscomb University Track and Field squad, have been named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Women’s 2012 All-Academic squad.
Walker and Lobley became the first two National All-Academic honorees for the women’s track and field team while a total of 676 student-athletes representing 171 institutions were honored on Wednesday.
A total of 676 student-athletes representing 171 institutions were honored including Walker and Lobley, who become the first two National All-Academic honorees for the women’s track and field team.
“We always say that our program is about excellence athletically, academically and socially, and we continually prove that with our actions,” coach Bill Taylor said. “We are three for three with Dani, Kendra and Tucker Peabody (honored Tuesday) being our National Championship Preliminary round qualifiers, and all three earn National All-Academic Honors.”
Walker, a rising junior in the distance events, qualified for the NCAA Championship Preliminary Round before falling short in her bid into the national championship round in the 5000m run.
Lobley, the A-Sun Freshman of the Year, qualified for the NCAA Championship Preliminary Round in the 3000m steeplechase.
“It’s a terrific achievement for them and another example of our quest for excellence in all things,” Taylor said. “I’m very proud of all three and we look forward to more national qualifiers and National All-Academic honors.”
To qualify for the USTFCCA award a student-athlete must possess a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met qualifying standards for either the indoor or outdoor season.
In the spring of 2012, the women’s track and field squad had 33 student-athletes honored by the A-Sun for their academic efforts.
