NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Looking for their first win of the season, Lipscomb men’s soccer travels to Conway, Ark. to take part in the Central Arkansas Invitational this weekend. The Bisons will play host Central Arkansas in a 4 p.m. match on Friday, Aug. 31. On Sunday, Sept. 2, LU will play the early game of the day as they battle with Missouri State at noon.

Lipscomb opened their season with a 2-1 loss at Evansville and 2-0 loss to Eastern Illinois. The Bisons had chances in both contests but were unable to convert. Luke Gearin scored LU’s lone goal of the season off a free kick from 20-yards out, deflecting off the Evansville wall.

Central Arkansas, an associate member of the Missouri Valley Conference, was picked to finish seventh in the league. Midfield Ethan Miller and defender Andrew Turner were picked for the Preseason All-Conference team.

UCA is 2-0-0 with victories over Loyola University Chicago and Western Illinois. Michael Quinn and Manuel Montal each have a goal for the Bears. Miller leads the team with eight shots, landing six on goal. Goalkeeper Patxi Shortsleeve has eight saves allowing one goal.

Missouri State, picked to finish second in the MVC, returns six starters from last season that tied for the MVC Championship. Andrew Turner was chosen to the Preseason All-Conference team as a defender. Goalkeeper Trevor Spangenberg made 44 saves and had six shutouts for the Bears.

MSU is 1-0-1 earning a victory at University of Missouri Kansas City. Cole Alexander leads the team with four shots, placing three on target. Four different players have scored for the Bears with three of the goals gaining an assist. Prior to Playing Lipscomb on Sunday, Missouri State will take on Oral Roberts on Friday as a part of the UCA Invitational.

Following the UCA Invitational, the Bisons will return home Friday, Sept. 7 and Sunday, Sept. 9 for the Hyatt Place Select Lipscomb Invitational. The Bisons will take on Elon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Oral Roberts at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
