MARTIN, Tenn. – Four second-half goals doomed the Lipscomb women’s soccer team as they fell 5-1 at UT Martin on Sunday afternoon.
Lipscomb (2-3-2, 0-0-0 ASUN) played to a 1-1 tie in the first half before 12 UTM (2-4-1, 0-0-0 OVC) second-half shots led to four goals.
“I was pleased with the waywe played for 45 minutes,” said Lipscomb head coach Kevin O’Brien. “But unfortunately for us it was a 90 minute game.”
The Skyhawks struck first with a goal in the 16th minute. Abi Sanvee received the pass from Hanna McGowen five yards out for the 1-0 lead.
Lipscomb countered in the 27th minute as Karli Crosby found Molly Bray on the right side of the field, 25 yards out. Bray added another long strike to her resume, for her third goal of the season.
“UTM really showed their class in the second-half and demonstrated why they were OVC champions last season,” O’Brien said. “Their players dominated every facet of the game in that second period and thoroughly deserved the result.
A UT Martin tally in the 50th minute would mark the game-winner. Kendyl Wilson lofted a shot from the right side of the field.
Tacking on three more second-half goals from Dominka Conc, Ashlie Watson and Ashley Reveiz, the Skyhawks took the final 5-1 score.
With 11 stops, senior goalkeeper Erin Zerio moved into 15th place all-time on the Atlantic Sun Conference saves list with 283 career saves.
Lipscomb fired eight shots, with four landing on target including Bray’s goal. Bray and sophomore Baylee Linnell each had two shots for LU.
“We have a lot of work to do this week, in the film room and on the field, in order to prepare for the upcoming match at Alabama State,” O’Brien said.
The Lady Bisons return to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 14, traveling to Montgomery, Ala. for a 7 p.m. match against Alabama State.
