NASHVILLE, Tenn. -The Lipscomb Lady Bisons golf team heads north Monday and Tuesday for the SIUE Doubletree Intercollegiate at the Sunset Hills Country Club in Edwardsville, Ill.
Also in the field are Creighton, Eastern Illinois, IPFW, SIU-Carbondale, Tennessee State, Evansville, Nebraska-Omaha and South Dakota.
Buddy Harston is concentrating on his duties with the women’s team. Will Brewer was hired this year to work with the men. Harston likes having the opportunity to work with only one team.
“Now I have the time to make sure that our golfers are doing what they are supposed to do,” Harston said. “We have always worked on drills, but when I was coaching both teams I didn’t have the opportunity to concentrate on just one team.”
Miriam Parker, a freshman from Jackson, Miss., is the only new face for the Lady Bisons. Harston likes the way Parker approaches the game.
“Miriam has a lot of talent,” Harston said. “She has a good foundation. She wants to be a good player. I like the way she goes about her business as far as practicing.
“Her strong point is putting. She is getting over the newness of playing in Division I. I look for her to get better with each tournament.”
Junior Savanna Schubert returns as the top player from last season and is expected to lead the team again.
“Savanna has a really good, natural swing,” Harston said. “She has a good short game. She is a good putter. She has some fundamentals she has to polish and we are working on those now.”
Harston is also expecting good performances from sophomore Samantha Khan.
“Sammy worked real hard this summer,” Harston said. “She has improved her swing fundamentals and her chipping and pitching fundamentals.
“Nobody wins a tournament without a good short game…period. You have to be able to get the ball in the hole from 100 yards and in.”
Junior MacKenzy Carter is expected to be the No. 2 or No. 3 player after having shoulder problems last spring.
