MACON, Ga. – Junior setter Caitlin Dotson helped lead the Lipscomb Lady Bisons to a pair of wins and won Atlantic Sun Volleyball Player of the Week honors.
The conference office made the announcement Monday. It is the third week in a row that a Lipscomb player has won the award.
Dotson had 95 assists in two matches and an impressive 13.57 assists per set, including a 14.00 assists per set against USC Upstate on Friday night.
“Caitlin Dotson did an unbelievable job leading the team and it was really capped off by her play on Saturday,” Lipscomb head coach Brandon Rosenthal said. “I thought she did a tremendous job leading the team through a tough first set and a really tough match overall.”
The Louisville, Ky., native had a double-double in a 3-0 win on the road against USC Upstate with 42 assists and 12 digs. This was her seventh double-double of the season and her 20th of her career.
Dotson just missed a double-double in a 3-1 win on the road against ETSU on Saturday with 53 assists, nine digs and a career-high six kills. This was her 11th match of the season with at least 40 assists.
“Dot has worked hard,” Rosenthal said. “It’s fun to see her grow through the season. I’m happy for her. Dot has been a wonderful asset to our team. It’s fun to see somebody get rewarded.”
Dotson leads the A-Sun with 12.26 assists per set in conference play and is second in the A-Sun with 11.46 assists per set overall. She was ranked 30th in the NCAA coming into last week with 11.20 assists per set. Dotson has helped the Lady Bisons to a .258 hitting percentage in conference play, which is tied for first place in the A-Sun.
This is Dotson’s first career A-Sun Player of the Week honor. LU is the only A-Sun team to have multiple volleyball Players of the Week this season (Lauren Ford-Sept. 10, Kaycee Green-Sept. 24 and Oct. 1).
The Lady Bisons (10-8, 7-0) return home against Florida Gulf Coast (11-7, 7-0) Friday night at 6:30 for a a showdown of the undefeated in the A-Sun. LU finishes the weekend against Stetson (4-20, 0-7) Saturday at 2 p.m.
“I’m excited about this week,” Rosenthal said. “Obviously it’s a big week for us and this is a great start for us to an important week.”
