JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Lipscomb volleyball team bounced back to win 3-1 against Jacksonville at Swisher Gymnasium Saturday after its first road loss in the Atlantic Sun Conference this season.
The Lady Bisons (12-10, 9-2 A-Sun) lost Friday night to North Florida 3-1 in Jacksonville.
“Coming back from a loss is something this program hasn’t experienced that much, especially in the conference in last four or five years,” Lipscomb head coach Brandon Rosenthal said. “We’re trying to find that balance playing freely and also with a sense of urgency.”
Middle blocker Jewell Dobson had a career-high 22 kills, also her first 20-plus kill performance of her career. The sophomore had a hitting percentage of .677, which ranks third all-time at Lipscomb for a player with at least 12 kills in a match. The Shepherdsville, Ky., native had one error on 31 attacks.
“Jewell is a tremendous player,” Rosenthal said. “She’s a key figure and every team knows that. We’ve got to make some adjustments to free her up and that happened tonight. You can see how lethal she can be.”
Outside hitter Kaycee Green was second on the team with 16 kills and had a hitting percentage of .382.
Libero Stephanie Rex, who had 23 digs Friday night, added another 24 digs against the Dolphins (4-20, 2-9 A-Sun). The 24 digs tied her career-high and set a season-high.
“I thought Rex had a great weekend, a really great weekend,” Rosenthal said. “It’s good to see what she’s capable of. She’s really finding a rhythm to her play with the small adjustments during the match she made last night and tonight.”
Setter Caitlin Dotson had her eighth double-double of the season with 50 assists and 11 digs. This was her 12th match with at least 40 assists.
Outside hitter Lauren Ford just missed a double-double with 12 kills and nine digs.
