NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb men’s soccer team had an overtime header scored against them to drop its home finale 1-0 to USC Upstate in Atlantic Sun Conference play on Sunday afternoon at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.
“Just an unfortunate result today,” Lipscomb head coach Charles Morrow said. “I think the effort was outstanding, I thought we did a lot of good things in the game. I thought we were a bit unfortunate on a few chances we had.”
In the 96th minute of play Matt Flynn took a free kick from just in front of midfield on the right side and sent a lofting ball off the head of Dave Musambi for the game-winner.
With the victory, Upstate improves to 5-7-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the A-Sun. The Bisons slip to 4-10-1 and 1-3-1 in the loop.
Controlling the possession for the bulk of the game, the Bisons outshot the Spartans 12-7 including 7-2 in the second stanza.
Sophomore Luke Gearin just about put the Purple and Gold on the scoreboard in the 66th minute but had his header glance off the crossbar and the top-spin carried it overtop the goal.
“We controlled the lion’s share of the game we thought,” Morrow said. “But we did not create as good of chances as we needed to, to put one away.”
The Bisons three remaining regular season games will all be on the road starting Friday with a 6 p.m. match at Jacksonville.
