DELAND, Fla. – The Lipscomb volleyball team finished its Atlantic Sun regular season with a 3-1 win on the road against Stetson.

With the score tied at four in the first set, the Lady Bisons (18-11, 15-3 A-Sun) scored the next five points.  LU eventually went on to win the first set 25-15.

In the second set, the Lady Bisons had a 9-5 lead, but Stetson (4-31, 0-18 A-Sun) outscored LU 9-3.  The Hatters went on to win the second set 25-23, by scoring the last two points.

“The difference in set two was that we let them dictate the pace,” Lipscomb head coach Brandon Rosenthal said.  “They play a little slower pace offense.  We didn’t push the issue as much as I would like to see.”

The Lady Bisons got off to a hot start scoring the first four points in the third set.  LU held a comfortable lead throughout the set and won 25-13.

In the fourth set, Stetson jumped out to a 2-1 lead, but the Lady Bisons scored the next six points.  LU won the set 25-14.

“I thought our girls did a nice job responding in set three and four and ultimately getting the job done,” Rosenthal said.

Outside hitter Lauren Ford recorded her eighth double-double.  The sophomore had 19 kills, 14 digs and a hitting percentage of .333.

“Lauren struggled a little bit in spots,” Rosenthal said. “But the best part of what she did was that she didn’t allow the struggles to take her out of the match.  She really settled in and came on late in the match.”

Outside hitter Kaycee Green had a match-high 20 kills and a hitting percentage of .405.

“Kaycee did a real nice job and was very focused in executing,” Rosenthal said.  “She knew what she wanted to do and did it.”

Outside hitter Brittnay Estes set a career-high with 12 digs, her first double-digit dig performance of her career.

“Her defensive effort was good,” Rosenthal said of Estes.  “When I say that, I thought she was good because of the diversity.  We had four girls with double-digit digs.  When you out dig a team by 27, I thought that was impressive.”

Libero Stephanie Rex also had 12 digs.

Setter Caitlin Dotson recorded her 12th double-double on the season and 25th of her career. The junior had 47 assists and 11 digs along with three kills on five attempts for a hitting percentage of .600.

Cailyn Prewitt led the Hatters with eight kills, followed by Kelli Carneal and Kayla Weller with 16 and 13 assists respectively.  Monique Russell and Kaley Melville had 18 and 10 digs respectively.

Up next for the Lady Bisons is the A-Sun tournament being held in Allen Arena from Nov. 15-17.  LU is the No. 2 seed and has a bye into the semifinal round.

“We don’t have to play on Thursday, so we can get some extra rest and get some work done,” Rosenthal said.  “We are excited to be home and we are excited to be in another A-Sun tournament.”

Florida Gulf Coast won the regular season crown and is the No. 1 seed, while North Florida captured the No. 4 seed.  The final two spots are still up for grabs in tonight’s matches.
