Baseball signs trio of prep hurlers for 2014

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A trio of high school hurlers have signed national letters of intent to join the Lipscomb baseball team for the 2014 season as announced by the school on Tuesday.

Hunter Anglin, Caleb Herndon and John Pryor are set to bolster the Bisons pitching staff.

“All three of these guys are extremely talented and we look forward to getting them on campus,” said Lipscomb head coach Jeff Forehand.

Coached by former Bison Jeff Guy for East Cobb during the summer, Anglin is a product of Gainesville High School in Gainesville, Ga., where he has compiled a record of 23-5 over the past three seasons including 14 complete games.  The righthander is also a three-time All-Region selection by the Gainesville Times.

“Hunter is a guy who loves to compete and wants the ball in his hand,” said Forehand. “He is going to help strengthen our bullpen early in his career coming out of the highly competitive middle Georgia area.”

A local southpaw from Antioch, Herndon has excelled for Ezell Harding Christian School under former Bison pitcher Wes Wilkerson and thrown for Legends Baseball during the summers.

“We have had the opportunity to watch Caleb for the past few years,” said Forehand.  “It has been a pleasure seeing him develop. He is the guy that every coach is looking for, a great student and has the potential to make an impact on the mound.”

Ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the state of Minnesota and one of the top-50 lefties nationally by Perfect Game, Pryor was named to the 2012 All-State team by the Pioneer Press after a junior season that saw him post a 0.80 ERA and fan 93 batters in 66 innings of work for Minnehaha Academy.

“John is extremely talented and has the chance to make an early impact for the Bisons,” said Forehand. “His athletic ability and knowledge of the game are exciting and he is an excellent student off the field. He will be a great fit for us and our tradition of having great lefties come through the program.”
