HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Bank of Kentucky Center was not kind to the Purple and Gold as Lipscomb fell 66-33 to Northern Kentucky, the newcomers in the Atlantic Sun Conference, on Saturday afternoon.

The Norse improve to 6-8 overall and 3-2 in their first trip through the conference as the Lady Bisons fall to 2-13 overall and 1-4 in A-Sun play.

“We came out very stagnant and executed poorly,” Lipscomb head coach Greg Brown said. “It was a great lesson on execution. Unfortunately we were on the wrong end of the lesson.

“We need to keep working on carry over from practice to the game.”

After NKU scored the first basket of the game, senior Hannah Phillips sank a pair of free throws to tie the game at 2-2 with 16:45 remaining in the first half, leaving Phillips three points shy of 900 in her career.

Phillips hit that mark with 13:58 remaining in the first stanza as she sank a 3-point basket to pull within one at 7-6, becoming the sixth player in LU history to reach that mark and officially put her on the 1,000 point watch.

After falling behind 11-6 with 12:32 remaining in the half, junior Jess Reece hit a pair of jump shots to bring the Purple and Gold within one point at 11-10.

However, that is the closest the Lady Bisons would get as the Norse used a 13-3 run to open a 24-13 lead with 6:28 left in the first half.

The Lady Bisons were led by Phillips with eight points while Reece secured a game-high six rebounds. O’Neisha Smith came off the bench for five rebounds.

The Norse were led by a pair of game-highs as Kayla Thacker and Ellen Holton scored 13 points.

The Lady Bisons continue action on the road next week, traveling to DeLand, Fla. for a 1 p.m. contest at Stetson on Saturday that will air on ESPN3.
