HOUSTON, Texas - Sunday morning came down hard for the Lipscomb Lady Bisons.
They closed out the Hilton Classic with a 10-1 loss to Houston at Cougar Softball Stadium. The Lady Bisons finished 3-2 in the classic, including a 4-2 win over Houston Friday.
The Lady Bisons struck first with a run in the first inning. Paige Neely, who led all batters with a three-for-three performance, singled with one out. She moved to second on passed ball and went to third on a fielder’s choice. She scored on a throwing error by Houston’s pitcher.
Houston struck for three runs in the second inning, two in the fourth and five in the fifth. The game was called after five innings.
Lipscomb right-hander Tanner Sanders picked up her first loss in three outings. She pitched 3.2 innings and gave up three hits and five runs, all earned. She walked four and struck out four.
Right-hander Heather Parker made her third relief appearance of the season. She pitched two-thirds of an inning and allowed five hits and five runs, three earned. She walked one batter.
Left-hander Ashley Anderson closed out the game pitching two-thirds of an inning. She did not give up a hit or a run.
Neely had a double for the Lady Bisons who finished with seven hits.
The Lady Bisons are on the road again this weekend with the Bulldog Battle at Mississippi State in Starkville Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
