NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Former Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt was in Nashville on Friday for a book signing. Lipscomb women’s basketball head coach Greg Brown took the opportunity to deliver a check to his mentor and friend.

A check of $1,120 was presented to Summitt for the Pat Summitt Foundation. The foundation was launched by Summitt and her son Tyler to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.

“It was exciting to spend a few minutes with Pat and present the check to her and the foundation,” Brown said. “We talked about how we want to grow this into an annual event. More so than just a basketball game but an event to help raise money and find a cure for this disease.

“It is just a great opportunity for us to help in the bigger picture.”

Funds were raised by the Lady Bisons during the Jan. 26 basketball game against Mercer. Ticket sales, T-shirts and donations were accepted to raise the money.

“This is something we can build around as an annual event,” Garner Goode, Lipscomb director of sales and marketing, said. “This hits close to home for a lot of us. One of our main sponsors, Derek Smith of Rio Grande Fencing, serves on the Alzheimer Association Mid-South Chapter board.

“I look forward to doing this again next year.”
