JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Lipscomb baseball team got a pair of home runs but it would not be enough as homestanding ETSU plated seven in a 7-2 Atlantic Sun Conference loss on Saturday afternoon at Thomas Stadium in Johnson City.

“We had our chances today to stop the bleeding but just didn’t do it,” said Lipscomb head coach Jeff Forehand. “When you’re in a rut and the ball doesn’t bounce your way, now you don’t have an opportunity to cut it off at one run and it becomes four and that ended up being a big difference in the game.”

Both pitchers cruised through the first two innings before Lipscomb (12-24, 3-8 A-Sun) starter Hunter Brothers ran into trouble in the bottom of the third.  The Bucs (20-12, 9-5 A-Sun) would use three hits and a pair of walks to plate a quartet of runs and take a 4-0 advantage.

The Bisons would get on the scoreboard in the fourth as senior shortstop Aaron Sandoval crushed a ball over the left field fence but ETSU would tack on a pair of runs in the fifth to end Brothers’ day on the hill and take a 6-1 lead.

Lipscomb senior catcher Taylor Stewart cut the lead back to four runs in the sixth with his third long ball of the season but the Bucs answered right back in the bottom of the stanza to make it a 7-2 cushion.

Logan Rice picked up the win for ETSU after a six-inning, two-run, five-hit effort.  Brothers took the loss giving up six runs, eight hits and four walks in four innings of work.

ETSU’s Will Chesney notched his first save of the season by working the final three innings without allowing a run.

The series wraps up on Sunday afternoon with first pitch slated for 12:05 p.m. The game is set to air live on http://www.asun.tv for free.
