NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb golf team shot a third-round 283 to finish second in the TSU Big Blue Invitational.
Southern Illinois won the tournament was 54-hole score of 847. The Bisons were five strokes behind at 852 in the 14-team tournament which ended Tuesday at the President’s Reserve at Hermitage Golf Club.
The tournament was sponsored by Tennessee State University.
“The stats will shot that we hit the ball well,” said Will Brewer, LU’s director of golf. “We putted well, but we just didn’t putt well enough. We have to keep getting better.
“I felt like at a minimum we should have finished third of fourth. It was just an overall solid team effort.”
Blanton Farmer led the Bisons with a three-round score of 212 (69, 71, 72). He tied for seventh place.
Dustin Wilder tied for ninth place with a 213 (73, 70, 70).
Alex Cox tied for 15th with a 214 (69, 71, 74).
“Alex bogeyed the first five holes and was only two over on the last 13,” Brewer said.
Ryan Terry finished with a score of 221 (82, 70, 69), tying for 49th place.
“Ryan had a very good round,” Brewer said.
Paul Kleine-Kracht tied for 53rd place with a 222 (76, 74, 72).
Four Lipscomb players competed as individuals. Tyler Leroy tied for 38th with a total of 219. He scored a 73 in each round. Nathan Mueting tied for 68th with a 226 (80, 74, 72). Zach Pursell tied for 75th with a score of 229 (79, 79, 71). Taylor Combs tied for 77th with a 231 (74, 81, 76).
Next week the Bisons head to Braselton, Ga., for the Atlantic Sun Men’s Golf Championship.
“This puts us in a good position heading into the conference tournament,” Brewer said. “Our expectations are high. We should be confident.”
