MACON, Ga. – The Lipscomb men’s track and field team dominated the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic Team, taking six of the 12 spots, the league announced Monday. All six Bisons were unanimous selections to the team.
“We want to succeed in everything we do,” Bill Taylor, director of cross country and track and field, said. “When we take half the squad on the scholar-athlete team, it just shows that we take academics seriously. We always try to excel in everything we do.”
Ben Wright, a management major holding a 3.83 GPA, was selected to the squad after finishing sixth in the steeplechase at the A-Sun Championships. The senior finished in 9:40.34.
Holding a 3.55 GPA in mechanical engineering and winning the 400-meter hurdles, Andrew Wolf was named to the squad. Wolf won the 400-meter hurdles in 53.08 seconds and claimed the silver medal in 110-meter hurdles in 14.05 seconds. Wolf also set the school record in the 110-meter hurdles this season.
Geoff Musick, a senior biochemistry major, finished fifth in the 10,000-meter run crossing the finish line in 32:07.59. He holds a 3.75 GPA and also competed in the 5,000-meter run this season.
Maintaining a 3.49 GPA in law, justice, and society, Kenny Smith was named to the team after helping the Bisons to two relay all-conference performances. The sophomore was the lead runner on the 4X400 A-Sun champion relay squad that finished in 3:14.76. He was also on the 4X100 relay squad that finished in 41.88 seconds.
Isaiah Greer, a senior mechanical engineering major holding a 3.54 GPA, was named to the squad after finishing ninth in the 5,000-meter run in 16:01.02. He also ran the steeplechase finishing in 10:03.20.
After defending his 200-meter dash title, Tucker Peabody was selected to the squad while maintaining a 3.31 GPA in biology. He won the title in 20.68 seconds, a conference and school record, which ranks 20th in the nation and 11th in the East Region. He also finished second in the 100-meter dash and anchored the come-from-behind 4X400 relay squad that won gold.
