SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The agony of a loss usually lasts longer than the thrill of victory.

The best way to start healing from the sting of a loss is to win the next day.

After Friday night's gut-wrenching 3-2 match loss at ETSU the Lady Bisons bounced back with a 3-1 Atlantic Sun win over USC Upstate at the Hodge Center.

"Road trips are hard," Lipscomb coach Brandon Rosenthal said. "This was a good win.

"We did some really good things. It is another win on the road. We will take it. I am proud of the girls for really turning the page."

The Lady Bisons won set one 25-17 and set two 25-21. Upstate took set three 25-22. The Lady Bisons wrapped up the match with a 25-17 win.

The Purple and Gold are 19-7, 13-3 in the A-Sun. Upstate dropped to 4-22,  3-13 in the conference.

Rosenthal doesn't plan to let up any on his team.

"It's an easy thing from the outside perspective to say you are winning," Rosenthal said. "But at the end of the day we should be held to a higher standard.

"We all understood that coming into the program. This is what we want to do."

Rosenthal knows some might question why he is driving his team so hard. He has an answer.

"I'm driving because of where we are," Rosenthal said. "We have to find a way to finish games.

"We were definitely the most dominant team today. But we weren't executing as well as we should have. It is not about hoping things will happen. It is about going out and making things happen."

In set one middle blocker Jewell Dobson led the way with five kills and one service ace.

The Lady Bisons, down 19-18 in set two rallied with Dobson closing the set with two straight kills.

The Spartans prevailed in set three which featured 16 ties. With the score knotted at 22-22 Upstate made three straight points

The Lady Bisons never trailed in set four. Leading 10-8 the Lady Bisons finished the set and the match by a 15-9 advantage.

Dobson led the Lady Bisons with a match-high 21 kills, one service ace, one block and four block assists.

Outside hitter Lauren Ford added 13 kills. Middle blocker Molly Spitznagle chipped in with 12.

Spitznagle also was credited with seven block assists.

Libero Bri McCombs made 22 digs and added one service ace.

Kayla Eversgerd led Upstate with 17 kills, one of four in double figures in kills. Eversgerd had a double-double with 13 digs. Morgan Page made a match-high 25 digs.

"We need to do a better job of limiting kills," Rosenthal said. "Defensively, we didn't pick up as many balls as we should have."

The Lady Bisons close out the Atlantic Sun regular season Friday and Saturday at Allen Arena when Stetson and FGCU visit. Both matches will be on ESPN3.
