NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb men’s basketball team continues home action on Monday night hosting Oakland City in a nonconference tilt at 6 p.m. at Allen Arena that is set to air on ESPN3.
The Bisons (0-1) look to rebound from a hard-fought 87-83 home loss last Friday night to rival Belmont.
“At this point of the season there is so much that you have to do to get yourself prepared for the long term and conference games that are a long way from now,” said Lipscomb head coach Casey Alexander. “If you can’t motivate yourself to practice hard and play well regardless of whether it’s the home opener against your biggest rival or your next game against a non-Division I team, then we’re not doing our jobs and we’re not getting that message across to our players.”
Oakland City (1-1) enters the contest having played a pair of contests already having opened the regular season at Austin Peay in an 84-69 loss. The Mighty Oaks then opened home action on Saturday night in Oakland City, Ind. with an 80-51 win over Central Christian College.
“Oakland City is going to be hard to guard,” said Alexander. “They are a motion offense with five guys moving all the time and it will be a challenge, especially for our low post guys to cover the whole floor and contest shots. We’ll be a little better prepared than most teams because that’s similar to what we do when we have to guard ourselves in practice.
“The key is to keep them from getting good, open, on-balanced looks at the basket. They have several guys that can make shots, so that will be a real point of emphasis for us.”
Along with the ESPN3 broadcast, the game will air on the new home for Bison basketball Game 2 94.9 presented by Jackson. To purchase tickets logon to http://www.LipscombTickets.com or call 615-966-HERD (4373).
