LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Lipscomb men’s golf team opened play at the Bluegrass Invitational Saturday on the Blue Course of the University Club with a team score of 595 (+19) to finish ninth.
The Bisons entered the 13-team field, 54-hole event hoping to use it as a last tune up before next week’s Atlantic Sun Conference Championship in Braselton, Ga.
On Saturday the teams played the first rounds and the final round coming on Sunday.
Lipscomb opened invite with a 295 team total on the first 18 holes, and followed up with a 300 in the afternoon round.
Caston Roberts led the Bisons with a two-round total of 146. The junior from Gilbert, Ariz., finished the day in a tie for 22nd overall after opening with a 74 in round one and firing an even-par 72 in round two.
Paul Klein-Kracht posted 73-77 to shoot 150 and finish 41st.
Tyler Leroy and Stoney Crouch finished just one stroke behind Klein-Kracht with a 151. Leroy fired a 75 on the opening 18. He followed with 76 in round two. Crouch shot 76-75. They will enter the final round in a tie for 47th.
Freshman Sydney Chung carded a one-over par 73 in round one, but fell back with a 79 in round two. His 152 two-round total puts Chung in a tie for 54th.
Playing as an individual Taylor Combs finished tied for 70th. In the first round back in his hometown, Combs opened with a 78. He posted 82 in the afternoon round to shoot a 160 daily total.
The Bisons will start the final round at 7 a.m. on Saturday looking to end the regular season with some momentum.
