DELAND, Fla. – With apologies to Lipscomb catcher Rena’ Cothron who wears the number, thirteen was not the lucky number for the Lipscomb Lady Bisons.

In the 13th inning Saturday afternoon Demi Meza hit a single down the right field line to score Jessie Tenbroeck with the game winner for a 4-3 decision.

Stetson, 31-9, 15-5) takes over second place in the Atlantic Sun. The Lady Bisons, 35-11, 15-8, remain in third. Stetson has six more A-Sun games left on the schedule. The Lady Bisons close out the A-Sun portion of the season at home April 26 and 27 against Northern Kentucky.

The game was the longest ever played in terms of innings at Patricia Wilson Field on the campus of Stetson.

Anderson, 17-4, gave up 10 hits and four runs, two earned. She struck out 10 and did not walk a batter. She did hit one batter.

Meredith Owen proved to be a double threat for Stetson. She went 13 innings on the mound to improve her record to 19-5. She scattered six hits, struck out five and walked one.

At the plate she connected for a two-run homer over the center field fence in the fourth inning. She added another RBI in the 10th when she singled to center to score Tenbroeck.

Owen and Tenbroeck each had three hits to tie for the game high.

In the 11th the Lady Bisons loaded the bases with one out, but failed to score. In the 12th they placed runners on second and third with one out. And in the 13th they had runners on second and third with one out.

Cothron opened the fifth with a solo home run to left field for Lipscomb’s first run of the game. She also had a strong day behind the plate throwing out three runners.

Brittany Elmore, who had been hit by a pitch to lead off the sixth, scored on a throwing error to tie the game at 2-2.

The Lady Bisons took the lead 3-2 in the 10th when Cothron scored on a sac fly to right field by Haley Elliott.
