BRASELTON, Ga. – The Lipscomb men’s golf team finished round one of the 2014 Atlantic Sun Conference Men’s Golf Championship in sixth after combining for a 307 (+19) team total on Sunday.
The Bisons teed off on hole No. 10 and opened the championship strong, positioning themselves inside the top three after the first nine holes of play before losing strokes on the back.
Playing in their first A-Sun Championship, freshmen Sydney Chung and Stoney Crouch paced the Bisons on the opening 18 holes.
Chung was sitting at one-under par on the front nine before recording two double bogeys in a three-hole stretch. The youngster finished at even-par on the back nine and recorded four birdies on the day to close round one in 12th place, posting a two-over par 74.
Crouch found himself on a birdie streak on the front side, draining birdies on holes 13, 14 and 16. He ended the round tied for 20th with a four-over par 76.
Junior Caston Roberts had played well in his last three tournaments, but Sunday he got off to a slow start recording five bogeys and one double bogey to shoot seven-over par on the opening nine holes. Roberts settled down and found his stroke on the backside and drained two birdies to shoot a six-over par 78. Roberts will enter round two tied for 32nd.
Paul Kleine-Kracht closed round one just one stroke behind Roberts with a seven-over, 79. He finished day one tied for 35th.
The lone senior for the Bisons at the championship, Dustin Wilder, carded 38 on the front nine and a 42 on the back to place himself in a tie for 47th after firing an eight-over par 80.
No. 42 Kennesaw State leads the 10-team field after shooting an even-par 288. KSU’s Teremoana Beaucousin paced the field with a three-under par 69. He is two strokes better than teammate Jimmy Beck.
Round two will begin at 8 a.m. Monday.
