ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Former Lipscomb catcher Caleb Joseph (’10) is set to become the third Bison in school history to make his Major League Baseball debut after being called up by the Baltimore Orioles from the Norfolk Tides (AAA) on Wednesday.
Joseph is in the starting lineup for Wednesday night’s game for the Orioles against the Tampa Bay Rays. The contest is set to air on MASN-TV, WBAL radio and MLB.TV.
A two-time, first-team All-Atlantic Sun Conference standout for the Bisons, Joseph was named the 2013 Eastern League Topps/MiLB Player of the Year last season for the Bowie Baysox, the Orioles AA affiliate and started out 2014 with the Tides.
Joseph was a seventh-round selection by the Orioles in the 2008 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft after leading the Bisons to the first Atlantic Sun Tournament Championship in school history.
The Franklin, Tennessee native is set to become the first position player in the major leagues for the Bisons in the history of the program. Joseph joins current Colorado Rockies reliever Rex Brothers (’11) and Bo McLaughlin (’75) as Lipscomb players to make it to the majors.
