AUSTIN, Texas – Tessa Hoefle has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America First Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday.
Hoefle has shown exceptional progress not only as a member of the track and field and cross country squads, but also in the classroom.
"Tessa has led the way academically on a team that is known for our academic success,” said Bill Taylor, director of track and field. “That is really impressive!
“She has shown that you can be at the top academically and perform at a very high level athletically, while being a team captain, going on mission trips and pursuing excellence in all areas."
A native of Winnebago, Illinois, Hoefle is an English major who possesses a perfect 4.0 GPA.
She has played a key role as a member of the women’s cross country team. She led the Lady Bisons to three Atlantic Sun Championships.
She is also a three-time A-Sun Scholar Athlete of the Year, which makes her the only athlete to hold the honor since its inception in 2011.
As a runner, Hoefle placed fifth overall at the 2013 A-Sun Championships crossing the line in 17.58.5.
She also led the distance medley relay team at the Emory Crossplex Invitational to a winning time of 12:16.58.
Hoefle is the first Lipscomb track and field and cross country athlete to obtain the honor.
Hoefle received All-District honors back in May for the second time, while she takes home Academic All-America honors for the first time.
"She has had an amazing career here, and it's nice to see her get one more honor," Taylor said. "She deserves it."
