The Lipscomb Lady Bisons got back on the winning track Sunday in Conway, S.C. with a 5-2 win over Elon.
The win avenged a 7-6 loss to Elon Saturday at the Coastal Carolina Softball Complex.
The Lady Bisons pounded nine hits with Lauren Dortwegt, Heather Collins and Kellie Sirus each collecting a pair of hits. Collins had a double and Sirus slammed a two-run home run, her third in the two days. Leigh Little also slammed a double.
Freshman pitcher Christen Campbell pitched a complete game victory, her third of the season. She scattered seven hits, struck out six and walked one.
"It was another good outing by Christen," Coach Kristin Peck said. "She doesn't necessarily rely on speed. She is a movement pitcher. Her demeanor on the mound is that she is in charge. I still don't think we have seen her pitch as well as she can."
Little opened the game with double to right center. Dortwegt singled to shortstop moving Little to third. Julia Davidson knocked a sacrifice fly to center scoring Little. Collins followed with a double to left center scoring Dortwegt.
Elon came back to tie the game with two runs in the top of the second.
In the fifth Kellie Sirus hit a two-run home run to give the Lady Bisons a 4-1 lead.
"Kellie really started coming on strong at the end of the fall," Peck said. "She picked it up even more at the beginning of the spring. She has a smooth swing and has had a huge impact in our offense already this year."
In the sixth they added an insurance run when Jennifer Allsup scored on a singled to left field by Dortwegt.
"Elon is usually right in the middle of their conference," Peck said. "They are going to do well this season."
