The Lady Bisons softball team split two games at home in their annual fall tournament Sept. 27.

Suffering a 2-0 loss against rival Belmont in the first game, the team came back and finished the day with a 6-0 win over Trevecca.

“Belmont is a much-improved team,” Lady Bisons coach Kristin Peck said after the tournament. “But we didn't control the controllables. We didn't swing the bat and we walked in the only two runs of the game.”

Junior Alaina Jacobson held the Bruins to two hits and no runs through five innings, but the offense failed to produce any runs off of four hits. Belmont used four walks and one hit in the sixth inning to get their only two runs of the game. Lady Bison sophomore Megan Rottler collected two hits in the game.

Playing Trevecca next, the Lady Bisons came out with a different attitude and went ahead in the first inning 1-0. They would continue to swing the bats to end up with a total of six runs on ten hits. Trevecca could not seem to figure out the Lady Bisons' pitching, as freshman Whitney Kiihnl and Junior Christen Campbell combined to through a no hitter, just one walk short of a perfect game.

“It was great to see our pitching shut down a team that has good hitters,” Peck said. “Campbell used her defense and Whitney really stepped up to show us some big things already.”

Junior center fielder Lauren Dortwegt went 2 for 4 and scored the first run of the game. Infielder Kellie Sirus went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI. Junior Abby Lynn Wilson had two singles going 2 for 3 and scoring two runs. Freshman Caroline Mason hit her first triple of the season and junior Katie Haab ended with two RBIs for the game.

The Lady Bisons will take the field Saturday (Oct. 4) when they play former Lady Bisons in the annual Alumni game at 11 a.m. at Draper Diamond.
