The Atlantic Sun has released the names of student-athletes who earned All-Academic honors for the 2011-12 academic year, with Lipscomb’s 187 honorees the most among conference institutions.
More than 65 percent of conference student-athletes earned All-Academic status for the 2011-12 academic year, establishing a new record for conference academic excellence. Student-athletes earn All-Academic honors if they obtain a 3.0 or better grade-point average while maintaining status as a full-time student.
With 74 percent of student-athletes earning a place on the squad, Lipscomb had the second-highest percentage of student-athletes to earn the honor.
Eight student-athletes were placed on the President’s Scholar registry for completing their eligibility with a 3.8 GPA or better: Catherine Beals (women’s cross country/track), Brittany Duerk (women’s basketball/track), Kirsten Heikkinen (women’s soccer), Whitney Kiihnl (softball), Ashley Lehman (women’s cross country/track), Leah McAlister (women’s basketball), Evan McGee (men’s soccer) and Katie Rose (volleyball). Duerk, Heikkinen, Lehman and Rose were among eight conference student-athletes to graduate with 4.0 GPA’s.
Among 46 A-Sun student-athletes to earn Commissioner’s Scholar honors (3.6-3.79 GPA upon graduation), three were Lipscomb graduates: Anna Bowers (women’s basketball), Aaron Todd (men’s cross country/track) and Elizabeth Keevil (women’s tennis).
Fifty-one Lipscomb student-athletes earned Conference Scholar honors for maintaining a GPA of 3.4 or better for two consecutive years.
All told, the A-Sun recognized 1,416 as All-Academic selections for their work in the classroom. Additionally, 89 percent of the A-Sun’s conference champions had at least half of the athletes on their rosters earned All-Academic status.
