Dolphins, Lady Bisons Meet in A-Sun Game of the Week

MACON, Ga. - Lipscomb and Jacksonville will face off on Saturday afternoon inside Jacksonville’s Swisher Gymnasium in the Atlantic Sun Match of the Week. The Lady Bisons swept past the Dolphins in the 2007 A-Sun Championship to claim their first conference title. Saturday afternoon’s meeting will be broadcast on A-Sun.TV.

Lipscomb has yet to drop a set in four conference matches, while Jacksonville fell to cross-town rival UNF to open conference play, but has not lost a match since. Both teams enter the weekend on five-match wining streaks as well. Saturday’s clash represents the first meeting between the two schools since Lipscomb defeated Jacksonville in last season’s A-Sun championship to earn its first trip to the NCAA Tournament.

In the team rankings, JU is first in opponent hitting percentage (.154) and assists (11.69 aps), second in blocks (2.08 bps) and is third in hitting percentage (.219), kills (12.44 kps) and digs (14.44 dps). Individually, junior libero Shelley Walroth leads in digs (226) and digs per set (5.79), sophomore middle hitter Abby Gruenbacher is second in blocks (36) and blocks per set (0.97), ninth in kills per set (2.30) and 10th in hitting percentage (.296), senior outside hitter Sara Bendorf shares second in kills (142) and kills per set (3.64) and sophomore setter Hannah Munneke ranks fourth in assists per set (8.26).

A pair of sophomores lead the way for Lipscomb in reigning A-Sun Player of the Week Alex Kelly and 2007 A-Sun Championship MVP Jake Pease. Kelly paces the Lady Bisons attack averaging 3.79 kills per set, and is also a defensive stalwart collecting 44 blocks on the season, an average of almost one per set. Pease directs the Lady Bison offense, averaging a conference-best 9.58 assists per set.
